Dental Assisting School of the Lowcountry: A Training Program for High School Students Making Waves Locally

At Longboard Dental, we’re doing more than creating confident smiles—we’re helping shape the next generation of dental professionals right here in the Lowcountry.

Through our Dental Assisting School of the Lowcountry, we’re offering a one-of-a-kind opportunity for high school students to jumpstart their careers in healthcare. Founded and directed by Dr. Ellen Paulisick, this program is designed to create meaningful career pathways for students while addressing the growing demand for trained dental assistants across the Charleston area.

🏄♀️ Approved by the State, Rooted in the Community

Our program is officially approved by the South Carolina Commission on Higher Education.

We have started a partnership with the East Cooper Center for Advanced Studies to pilot the program as a credit-bearing internship opportunity. This groundbreaking collaboration allows students to earn high school credit while receiving hands-on training in a clinical dental setting.

The Dental Assisting School of the Lowcountry offers a blend of classroom instruction and real-world, hands-on training inside a working dental office. Students learn:

• Chairside assisting and four-handed dentistry
• Dental radiology and sterilization procedures
• Front office and communication skills
• Infection control and OSHA compliance
• Professionalism and clinical workflow

By graduation, students will be career-ready and eligible for entry-level positions in dental offices, or equipped to pursue advanced education in hygiene or dentistry.

This program is designed specifically for students in the Charleston region, many of whom want an alternative to the traditional four-year college route. Whether their next step is full-time employment, certification, or continued education, this program opens the door.

We are building a pipeline of local talent that will support the healthcare needs of our community for years to come—all while empowering students with real skills, confidence, and direction.
