When Dr. Ellen Paulisick got the call that she’d been voted Best Dentist by the readers of Mount Pleasant Magazine, her reaction was pure disbelief — followed by laughter and a few happy tears.
She’s read this issue for years, always flipping through the winners and cheering on local favorites, so seeing her own name in those pages felt surreal.
“It’s such an honor,” she said. “This is honestly my favorite issue every year.”
A Practice Built From the Heart
Longboard Dental opened just two and a half years ago, yet it already feels deeply rooted in the community.
Dr. Paulisick started the practice after realizing she needed more balance, more freedom, and the ability to care for patients the way she truly wanted. By her own words, the idea came “out of default,” during a moment of reflection that reshaped her approach to dentistry.
Care That Feels Personal
That heart-first philosophy is exactly why patients stay.
The office has a warmth you can’t fake. Children come in for their very first visits, parents settle comfortably into the chairs, and adults with complex cases find someone who takes the time to listen.
“If you take care of people, the rest will fall into place,” she said.
“We want to know your family. We want to be here for the long run.”
Dentistry Rooted in Community
What makes the experience even more personal is that her patients truly are her neighbors.
Dr. Paulisick lives in Carolina Park, meaning she regularly runs into patients at the park, the grocery store, and school events.
“There’s a different sense of accountability when you’re treating your friends and the people who eventually become like family,” she said.
“Everyone is right around the corner.”
Advanced Technology With a Small-Practice Feel
Despite its cozy, local atmosphere, Longboard Dental is equipped with technology typically found in much larger practices.
Dr. Paulisick continually reinvests in education and innovation — something she views as a responsibility, not an option.
Same-Day Crowns & Modern Solutions
The office features a milling machine and oven for same-day crowns, all designed, milled, and custom-glazed in-house by Dr. Paulisick.
She also places implants using the same systems she has lectured on for Glidewell Dental, the world’s largest dental lab.
“I love being able to bring what I learn straight back to my patients,” she said.
“It keeps us moving forward without losing the small-practice feel.”
Giving Back Beyond the Office
Giving back has always been part of Dr. Paulisick’s mission.
She previously served as head dentist at East Cooper Community Outreach’s dental clinic and now runs a hands-on assisting program out of her office for high school and college students interested in dentistry.
“I want the career to outlive me,” she said.
A Place That Feels Like Home
After 14 years in dentistry, Dr. Paulisick knows no one wakes up excited for a dental appointment — but she believes it doesn’t have to be something people dread.
Her goal is simple: keep patients comfortable, offer most care under one roof, and treat everyone like they truly matter.
Judging by this year’s vote, Mount Pleasant agrees.
Dr. Paulisick hasn’t just built a dental practice — she’s built a place that feels like home.
